We at the Highway congregation are striving to be a light for Christ in our community and the world. From mission teams in Nicaragua to groups dedicated to outreach, we have a heart for reaching and loving the lost and needy. We are a family sanctified and sent to be salt and light.
OUR HISTORY
On Sunday morning, February 3, 1981, 59 like-minded believers walked into the home of Ricky and Brenda Roach in Judsonia, Arkansas, for the first meeting of the Highway Church of Christ. Born from a desire to freely serve and worship God, this congregation has grown to make an indelible mark on its people and its community. Within the first year of coming together, the Highway Church appointed elders and deacons, acquired land, completed their first building project, and doubled in size. And that was just the beginning.
The story of the Highway Church of Christ is a story of growth. Adopting a goal to move “onward and upward,” the Highway Church expanded. Each member, encouraged to tap into their talents, contributes to what Highway has become. Those who have known the joy of Highway’s fellowship may remember bonding activities such as congregational retreats, hayrides, and canoe trips. They may also recall gospel meetings, youth rallies, vacation bible schools, and work days. All activities help to unify and strengthen the congregation.
Throughout its existence the Highway Church of Christ has held fast to its original goal to move “onward and upward.” The talented and diverse congregation reaches out to:
• Surrounding communities by providing for those in need through several avenues,
• Nearby university students by offering them a local ‘at home’ congregation,
• Children in difficult circumstance by supporting the work of area Children’s Homes both financially and through work projects, and
• Mission works including Mission Para Cristo and its programs.
The Highway Church also nurtures its core membership by way of:
• A wide variety of bible classes, • Children’s Church services,
• Providing diverse opportunities of service for everyone, and
• Continuing to seek ways to grow and develop.
Our church's statement of mission is as follows:
"We are a family of blood-bought believers of Jesus Christ who seek to be guided by His truth, filled and led by His Spirit in order to be His light shining in our community and the world. As we work to be all that Christ's spiritual body would be, we will strive to encourage, equip and involve everyone in our family to more perfectly walk with God. Because God loves us, we seek to extend the same love, grace and forgiveness to those around us with the intent of bringing them to the same salvation and blessings we enjoy in Him. To that end, we hold up Jesus Christ and Him crucified, the Lamb of God and the Light of the world."
LEADERSHIP
We have loving elders, deacons and ministers actively involved in the lives of the people that create our congregation. Take a moment to get to know them. Pray for them. Thank them. The task of caring for God's people is a great and heavy opportunity.
