It is our mission at the Highway Church of Christ to place the same emphasis on children as our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ does. It is our aim to assist and equip all children to grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. We also strive to reach lost families in our community by ministering to and through their children.
Bible Reader Parties
All children are encouraged to read their Bibles regularly. Bible reading goals are set for each age group each trimester. Children who reach their goals are invited to a special Bible-readers-only party. Past locations include Gym Stars and Zion Rock Gym.
Kids' Night
On the 3rd Friday night of each month, all children Kindergarten through the 6th grade are invited to a kid-only fellowship. Activities range from movies on the big screen to obstacle courses. Security measures are in place so parents can leave their children safely if they want to enjoy a night out!
Vacation Bible School
This is one of the highlights of our year. There are classes for every age and we incorporate lavish decorations, drama, and plenty of physical activities.
Holiday Celebrations
A few of our seasonal celebrations include the Christmas Book Exchange, the Family Easter Egg Hunt and Picnic, and the Trunk or Treat Halloween alternative.
Outreach Efforts
It is our desire to model a servant attitude to our children. We include our kids in many of our church-wide outreach efforts, including Feed Jesus (Thanksgiving) and Smiles for a Child (Nicaraguan mission).
Education
It is our desire that each and every activity we have for our children is based on their spiritual development. We diligently strive to produce children with a knowledge of God and His Word. With this in mind, the cornerstone of our children’s program is our Bible curriculum. From the time a child is old enough to sit up, we will be teaching the Bible. As a matter of fact, by the time our children complete the 6th grade, they will have covered the entire Bible four times! Our Sunday morning classes are set up like traditional Bible classes, with the focus being on an engaging lesson from God’s Word. Wednesday evenings are devoted to learning our standards. We have a list of standards that includes both Bible knowledge and Scripture memorization. Our program is comprehensive and systematic. Each year builds upon the previous year and no knowledge is ever left behind. By the end of 6th grade, students will have an in depth knowledge of Bible facts and will have memorized over 60 memory verses! On the last Sunday night in August, we celebrate all our kids have learned with Standards Night. The children take the stage and recite everything they have learned in the previous year. They all receive a certificate and a prize for all their hard work. It is exciting each year to see how the Word of God has taken hold in their hearts and minds!
